OUR ROLE

Etpa is a short‑term power exchange built as an event‑driven IT trading platform for spot electricity markets. We operate as a Central Counterparty, handling both financial and physical settlement, and provide automated ACER reporting out of the box. As an ACER‑registered Organised Market Place (OMP) and Registered Reporting Mechanism (RRM), we integrate seamlessly into the European regulatory landscape while supporting our role as NEMO in coupled spot markets.

Technology

Architecture & Infrastructure

Our trading engine is built on Axon Framework and Axon Server, giving us a highly scalable, event‑sourced core designed for transparency, auditability, and low‑latency order processing. All business events are persisted in a relational SQL back end, providing strong consistency guarantees and a clear audit trail for regulators and participants. The platform is architected for 24/7 availability, with horizontal scaling to handle high‑frequency trading and participant growth.

Hosting & Resilience

Etpa runs in a hardened cloud environment on Amazon Web Services (AWS), with primary infrastructure located in the Frankfurt region to be close to core European energy trading hubs. This setup combines low network latency with the resilience, redundancy, and disaster‑recovery capabilities of a tier‑one cloud provider. Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment pipelines ensure consistent environments and rapid, controlled change management.

Connectivity & Integrations

Participants can connect via a low‑latency REST API for order entry and portfolio management, Server‑Sent Events (SSE) for real‑time market data streaming, and a web-based GUI for traders and back office users. The same matching engine powers all channels, so API, SSE, and GUI users see a single, consistent order book in real time. Standardised interfaces make it straightforward to plug ETPA into algorithmic trading systems, risk tools, or internal ETRM platforms.

Clearing, Wallets & Settlements

Trading on Etpa is backed by instantaneous wallet‑based clearing: participants pre‑fund wallets, and every matched trade settles immediately against available balances. This design eliminates unsecured exposure to counterparties and simplifies collateral management compared to traditional post‑trade clearing flows. Our integration with an external payment provider allows rapid funding and withdrawals while maintaining strict segregation of client funds and exchange operations.
